Life
As I mentioned in my last post my wife was kind enough to come home with a new miniature poodle puppy earlier this week. Lil Napoleon has more than lived up to his namesake in his first week at the Benet household.
Sadly, the little guy has two parasites in his intestines. This means our house has been under attack from puppy poops. Thankfully, he is now on medication and is doing a lot better than he was earlier in the week.
Lil Napoleon has been a huge hit with the neighborhood. Neighbors have been stopping to say hi to him. A few have threatened to keep him for themselves.
He seems to be very well behaved for a puppy. We are struggling with teaching him not to beg when we are eating. There have been many a wrestling match between me and Napoleon in an effort to keep him away from human food. His complete desperation in the face of potential food makes me think that he is definitely my son.
The cutest moment of the week was when I had to take a shower before work and my wife was not home. I could not let lil Napoleon out of my sight because of the forementioned pooping barrage. My solution was to bring him in the bathroom with me when I showered. The little dude went completely bananas that he could not get to me. I popped the door of the shower open so he could see me. My dude’s solution was to hop in the shower with me. It was so funny and so cute. He decided as much as he hates getting wet, he hates being away from his papa more.
Entertainment
It was a big week for one of my favorite movie studios, Marvel Studios. Not only did two episodes of Daredevil Born Again get released this week, but Marvel also announced a majority of the cast for their highly anticipated film Avenger’s Doomsday.
The movie is set to start filming very soon. It’s possible that principal photography has not already commenced at the time of this post. I am sure that there will be more actors in the movie than those that have been announced by Marvel. There is nothing Marvel loves more than surprising us with someone like Henry Cavil showing up out of nowhere.
The full list of people is out there if you are interested. The cast is too large for me to completely break it down in one post. The highlights to me are the return of original Xmen actors such as Ian Mckellan, Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Romjin, and James Marsden and Kelsey Grammar.
These actors first showed up in Fox’s 2000 Xmen. The fact that they are reprising these roles over a quarter of a century later is so crazy to me. Who knows how involved they will be in the plot of the movie. As of now they are listed pretty high on billing. This makes me think that they have to be more important than just having a quick cameo.
I was happy to see that the “lead” of this ensemble film was Chris Hemsworth reprising his role of Thor Odinson. What a man. For some reason it is much easier to convince the women in my life to watch a Marvel Movie when Chris Hemsworth is involved. I will never forget how when Thor Love and Thunder came out and there was the trailer showing Hemsworth’s butt. My mother, sister-in-law and wife all were actively asking me when we would go see the movie. I don’t think that has ever happened with any of the other 34 marvel movies. Coincidence? I think not!!!!
Some other big takeaways, I was very excited to see Namor and Shang Chi will be in the movie. Namor was easily the best part of Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Shang Chi has probably been my favorite post Avengers Endgame Marvel Movie. I am very curious to see what type of arc these characters experience during this movie.
The biggest omissions that everyone is talking about are Tom Holland’s Spider Man and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. Both could easily be in the film in very minor roles.
I am not too upset about these omissions despite my love for both characters. The fourth Spiderman movie is coming out a few months after Doomsday. We will still get plenty of both these characters in the future.
Onto Daredevil Born again, I really enjoyed the two episodes that were released this week. I am not sure why Marvel decided to release two episodes this week, but I am definitely not complaining.
My favorite scene was easily the fight between Fisk and his wife’s former lover “Adam”. I love how Fisk has him prisoner in a dungeon and occasionally torments him. This week Fisk decided to gift Adam an Axe so the two of them could fight and the odds would be a little more even. Of course, Fisk still beat poor old Adam to a pulp. Old habits die hard.
This scene led to an interesting conversation between my wife and I. I asked her which of her exes I should keep prisoner and then beat up. I then asked which of mine she would like to imprison and then assault. Let’s just say it did not take long at all for either of us to come up with a name…..If anyone reading this is either of our exes you better watch your back jack!
The serial killer Muse is a very interesting antagonist for Daredevil. The idea of him basically being a serial killer version of Banksy who paints with his victim’s blood is very creative. I also like how spooky he is. He has appeared in a few episodes now and still has not uttered a single word. I am very interested to see where this storyline goes.
Athletics
I will be brief this post with my March Madness thoughts. I am obviously very happy that Duke has reached the final four. This is one of my favorite Duke teams that I have ever supported.
There is a larger discussion to be had about how the NIL has essentially destroyed the Mid Major school’s ability to compete. I will save that discussion for another post. The stats back this theory up with this being probably the most predicable tournament we have ever seen. The highest seed remaining in the Elite Eight was Texas Tech as a three seed. We are still waiting on a one seed to lose at the time of this post.
Baseball is fully back, and I am very excited. Baseball may not be my favorite sport, but the Chicago Cubs are probably my favorite team across all sports. I experienced genuine tears of joy for the first and only time in my life when they won the World Series in 2016. I am very optimistic about this season. I think they could win their division. However, that is probably the ceiling for this team.
The story of this baseball season is going to be the Los Angeles Dodgers versus everyone. The Dodgers are the heaviest World Series favorite from a gambling standpoint in a very long time. As a degenerate gambler myself I would find it very hard to put money on any other team.
Another storyline that I am very interested in is this baseball season is the “Sacramento Athletics” I can’t remember a situation where an MLB had a temporary home like this before. For those of you who do not know the A’s are moving from Oakland to Las Vegas. Their new stadium in Las Vegas in not complete. Rather than stay in Oakland for a few more years the A’s are going to play in a minor league stadium in Sacramento this season.
I will not deny that as sad as it is for fans from Oakland to lose their team, I am still very excited to see the Cubbies play in Las Vegas one day. I love that city, and this is definitely a good move for the Athletics organization and baseball as a whole.
That is all for me today. I will be back this Thursday with some White Lotus coverage and Final Four talk.
A bientot!
