Florida wins the Natty and “The coconut Milk is off” on White lotus

Athletics

It’s time to toot my metaphorical horn for a moment. In my very first post I took time to praise both Florida and Walter Clayton Jr. Those praises have aged like fine wine as Florida completed a furious comeback against Houston on Monday night to win the National Championship.

Houston did a great job of containing Florida in the first half. They were up by twelve points with over ten minutes left in the game. It looked like they were well on their way to their programs first National Championship. Then my guy, Walter Clayton Jr, came alive and led the Gators to victory.

As someone who bet both on Florida to win by at least two points, I was very pleased to see the final score of 65-63 Florida.

Personally, I think the karma bug came and bit Houston on the ass a little. Like I said in my previous post, I was not a huge fan of some of their coaches’ postgame comments after they beat Duke in the Final Four.

I am a huge proponent of respecting your opponent. I did not feel that Kelvin Sampson’s comments immediately following the game were super respectful. You would think an almost seventy-year-old man would know better. Just kidding, in my experience old fuckers like him are some of the rudest most disrespectful people out there.

I was very happy to see Houston blow a double digit lead to lose the National Championship. I never had strong feelings about their program before this weekend. But they are forever on my shit list now. Once you are on the list there is almost no going back. I still haven’t forgiven a girl who chopped my hair off in the first grade. Katie, I still hate you πŸ˜‰

In other sporting news the NBA and the NHL are both in the dog days of their seasons. The NBA in particular is kind of hard to watch right now. With the expanded playoffs there is almost no drama when it comes to the playoff race.

I am a huge proponent of shortening the season. I know all the reasons against doing this, mainly the loss of revenue that shortening the season would cause. However, I think it would be good for the product in the long run.

I am one of the biggest basketball fans you will ever meet. Even I have a hard time getting super invested in regular season NBA basketball. The way their season is constructed now you have to be a pretty terrible team to not even qualify for the playoffs. For that reason, the playoffs are the only season that matters in the eyes of hoops heads like me.

Players like James Harden who have great regular seasons but fall apart in the playoffs do not garner much respect. On the other hand, players who thrive in the playoffs such as Stephen Curry and Lebron James, become absolute legends.

There will be a lot on the line for a lot of star players this post season. I for one cannot be more excited.

White Lotus:

What a season and what a finale for my favorite show White Lotus. A lot happened on the extra-long season finale for season three. The only storyline that I felt didn’t really stick the landing was the conflict between the three older women, Jackie, Laurie and Kate.

They did have a nice heart to heart moment. They decided that their friendship was more important than their disagreements about some random Russian trainer.

Personally, I just didn’t feel like any of these characters experienced any sort of growth. Laurie gave a good heartfelt speech about how much she loved them. I just wanted a little more. Especially from Jaqueline. It feels like there are no consequences for how shitty she was to her friend Laurie all season long.

The storyline that I felt landed the landing the best was the tragic demise of Rick and Chelsea. The theory that Jim Hollinger was actually Rick’s father turned out to be true. Unfortunately, for Rick he only found this out after he shot his father to death.

Chelsea getting shot in the ensuing gun fight was one of the saddest moments in White Lotus history. The poor girl just needed to have better taste in men. As much as I love Walton Goggins as an actor, his character Rick was a real piece of shit.

It was thoroughly satisfying to see Rick gun down the douchebag bodyguards who had been taunting Gaitok all season. I do not think this was the first time Rick had killed someone based on how well he handled the gun.

Can we take a moment to acknowledge how terrible these bodyguards really were. They both just wandered away from Jim Hollinger while he was taking a picture with Jaqueline. Neither of them did anything to stop Rick from walking up to Jim, stealing Jim’s gun and then ruthlessly gun him down. If they hadn’t been killed by Rick, they would have definitely been fired.

I was sad to see Gaitok be the one to kill Rick. He broke his moral code to get the job and the girl that he wanted. As hot as she is Mook really kind of sucks as a person. It was clear that her interest in Gaitok was super conditional on his social status. You deserve better Gaitok.

Its finally time to talk about the best storyline of the season. The Ratliffs. Tim making poisoned pina coladas for his family was incredibly tense. I really thought he was going to go through with it for a moment when his family started to sip the deadly concoctions.

One of my favorite moments of the season was when he slapped the glass out of Saxon’s hands and declared. “The coconut milk is off!” His wife Victoria blindly supported him by loudly echoing this sentiment in her ridiculous accent. What a line. What a delivery by the amazing Parker Posey. I honestly think she has a chance to win an Emmy for her amazing performance this season.

Saxon and Lochlan finally had their anticipated confrontation about the brotherly tug that Lochlan gave Saxon a few episodes ago. Not a lot came from this confrontation.

The main takeaway was Saxon telling Lachlan not to worship him and that no one is going to make him a man. This statement by Saxon led to Lachlan doing the most unforgivably disgusting act of the season. The dude made himself a smoothie with a dirty blender that still had ruminants of Tim’s poison pina colada in it. He honestly deserved to die for this atrocity.

Somehow Lachlan survived despite the warnings from earlier in the episode about how lethal the seeds he ingested were.

One other big moment in the season as a whole was Belinda completing her transformation as the new Tanya. I was very happy to see her son Zion do such a great job negotiating on his mother’s behalf. Shout out to University of Hawaii’s business school for teaching him well.

Belinda received her pay day from Greg Gary and promptly peaced out of Thailand. She left her man behind with his dream of opening a spa with Belinda being crushed in the process. This was very intentionally reminiscent of how Tanya did the same thing to Belinda at the end of season one. Come on Belinda I thought better of you!

I will miss this show immensely while we eagerly await the fourth season. I will cover The Last of Us on a weekly basis in its place.

That is all for me today.

A Bientot.
