Entertainment:
The first episode of the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” was an incredibly impressive premiere. As someone who has played both of the video games, I will do my best to discuss the show without discussing plot points that I know are coming.
The creators of the show have been very vocal about creating a show that is a very faithful adaptation of the games. The plots and storylines of the games are very critically acclaimed. Hardcore fans of the games tend to get quite butthurt if there are any changes to the story of the show.
I very much enjoyed playing the video games. However, I am never upset if adaptations change things for the betterment of the show or movie. As long as the key plot points are hit, I personally do not have any problems with changes. In fact, sometimes I like the changes as they make the adaptation a little less predictable.
The first episode debuted a handful of new characters that will be crucial to the plot of this season. Dina, Ellie’s new love interest was the star of the show for me. She is bringing some great comedic energy that the show desperately needed. The casting of Isabel Merced was borderline genius by the showrunners. She is such a promising young actress, and I am very excited to see what she brings to the role.
Other promising newcomers are Young Manzino’s Jessie and Catherine O’Hara as Gail.
I am excited to see the unavoidable love triangle between Ellie, Dina and Jessie play out. I also wish I had even a fraction of the swag that Young Mazino has. How is it possible to look so cool and have such a cool name like “Young Mazino”??? I need to do a deep dive about him and get back to you.
I have a weird quirk where I randomly get obsessed with male celebrities that I think are really cool. It drives my wife insane. I can’t explain it. Man crushes are a real thing. I just want to be cool ok!
Catherine O’Hara is also a very promising addition to the show. She will always be the mom from Home Alone to me. I know a lot of younger people know her from Schitts Creek.
I could watch an entire episode of Joel and Gail in a therapy session. Their scene together was possibly my favorite scene of the episode. I cannot remember what happened between Joel and her belated husband. Whatever it was I am positive it was super dark and depressing.
Ally, played by Kaitlyn Dever, is another key addition of the season. Without giving too much away, Ally is a playable character in the video game. Her storyline of wanting revenge against Joel for killing her people is undoubtedly going to be a major driving force of this season.
The introduction of the “stalkers” was a very rivetting scene. Those things always scared the shit out of me in the game. I hate how they would literally just follow you for a long time without attacking you. When they finally would attack, they emit this incredibly creepy wail that always sent a shiver down my spine. I hope Joel and Ellie kill as many of those mother fuckers as possible.
There will be a few more different types of infected introduced this season. The creepiest one has yet to be revealed. These slimy bastards literally made me a little hesitant to play the game by myself late at night.
All in all, this episode did its job in making me incredibly optimistic about this season. The storyline of the game is so enthralling that I believe that the floor for this show is very high. Too much would have to go wrong for this season not to be entertaining.
I cant wait to have some “Bearbeecue!”
That is all for me today.
A bientot!
