The Oklahoma City Thunder are elated to celebrate their first NBA championship in their franchise’s history. They honorably do not acknowledge the championship that the franchise won when they were still the Seattle Supersonics. Seattle is still devastated to have lost their team. When the franchise first moved to Oklahoma City they considered it a new chapter and a new team. The move has turned out to work out well for them as they can now bask in the glory of being at the top of the NBA world.
The title is well earned and also a warning to the rest of the league. The Thunder are the youngest team since the seventies to win the title. This is a scary notion for anyone else wanting to win a title in the NBA the next couple of years.
Titles are earned and not given. That being said, I firmly believe that the Thunder will be even better next season. The rest of the league is going to have to step up to prevent a Thunder repeat.
Throughout NBA history we have seen the league go through periods of transition. This entire season has felt like a season of transition. We are saying goodbye to the old guard of players like Lebron, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. Those players obviously will still be in the league for a few more years. The days of them being the most important players in the league are long gone.
We have transitioned to younger better teams such as the Pacers and Thunder. Like I have said many times before, these teams may not have the biggest names in the sport of basketball, but they are undoubtedly the two best teams. This Finals was easily the most entertaining finals since the 2016 NBA finals.
Pacers guard TJ Mcconell deserves a special shout out for how well he played in this series. That man made a lot of money this NBA Finals. A lot of teams will be lining up to pay him the big bucks whenever he becomes a free agent next.
The Haliburton achilles injury is the most devastating basketball injury that I have seen in weeks. Don’t forget about the Tatum injury just a few weeks ago. Something is going on. Both of these guys are way too young to be suffering achilles injuries.
This injury was eerily similar to the Kevin Durant achilles tear in Tornoto in the 2019 NBA Finals. Credit to the Thunder fans for handling it infinitely better than those god damn Canadians did six years ago. I will never forgive them for cheering when Kevin Durant was helped off the floor. I understand it was human nature to cheer because they realized that Durant not being able to play most likely meant they were going to win the title. It was still a classless move, and I will never forgive those “polite” Canadians.
I repeat that players as young as Haliburton should not be injuring their achilles. Someone way smarter than me needs to study this. Personally, I think there has to be a correlation between the amount of achilles injuries and the sheer number of games players play in their youth these days. The AAU circuit is out of control. If you think of players like they are automobiles, they have way more miles on their odometer when entering the NBA than they have ever had before.
The Pacers should still hang their heads high and be incredibly proud of the post season their team delivered. They proved all the haters wrong, your boy Steviepooooo included. I wish Haliburton nothing but the best. He and the Pacers will be back and make deep runs in the post season once again.
It’s such a bummer for the league that the lead story from such an entertaining Finals is going to be the injury to Haliburton. I honestly cannot remember a player elevating their standing in the league more in a single post season. To have it end in such a traumatic fashion is sickening. The Thunder may have won the Finals, but Tyrese Haliburton won my heart ❤
I will be back Thursday afternoon to give my thoughts on the first round of the NBA draft.
A bientot!
